NICTA engages in collaborative research with industry where:
- There is substantial commitment by all contributors
- Research is based on scientific challenges
- Research activity is aligned with NICTA’s research themes and business areas
- There is potential to create national benefit in economic, social or environmental areas
Engaging with industry also helps identify avenues for the commercialisation of research outcomes. This occurs when industry approaches NICTA, or vice versa.

- Collaborative projects
- Access to IP on a commercial basis
- Regular information from NICTA about our research outcomes, current projects and breakthroughs
- Sponsorship of PhD students
- Industry events including seminars, breakfast briefings and industry interest groups.
How do I know my project is suitable?
If you are proposing to collaborate with NICTA, the work must be research-based. That is, a significant scientific or technological challenge must be involved.
NICTA looks for projects that:
- Fit within our Business Areas and/or Research Themes
- Have the potential to generate economic, social or environmental outcomes for national benefit
- Have potential for global impact
- Are interesting to the researchers who would be engaged on the project.
- NICTA does not undertake applied research or contract engineering.
