NICTA encourages its researchers to take their results to market. To provide a substantial incentive for commercialisation, NICTA’s policy towards transferring IP to spin-out companies is one that sees it retain a minority shareholding.
NICTA provides support to potential spin-out companies through a dedicated Business Development Executive. Two of NICTA’s spin-out companies appointed the Entrepreneur in Residence engaged by NICTA to guide them through the process as their CEOs.
