Dr Chris Beare is an independent Director with experience in technology and finance. He joined the Board of NICTA in April 2008 after two years on the Board Commercialisation Committee.

Dr Beare’s early engineering career was in Telecom Australia and he left in 1986 as the Head of Strategy. He stayed in Melbourne with Advent Management Group, a venture capital team that invested around $100m in 40 companies.

In 1991 he moved to investment banking in Sydney and in 1998 when Hambros was acquired globally by Societe Generale Dr Beare was joint CEO and Head of a Corporate Finance team that was involved in several major transactions including the Olympic Stadium, Brisbane and Hobart airport privatisations, and Pay TV negotiations with Packer, Murdoch, and Telstra. Dr Beare remained on the Board and an advisor to SG Australia until 2002.

Dr Beare was involved in the early days of Radiata, assisting with many of the strategy, business and financing aspects.  He became Chairman and CEO and in 2000 negotiated the sale to Cisco, where he stayed on part time in a Business Development role until 2004.

Dr Beare is Chair and a General Partner at Accede Venture Partners, a founding Director of investment bank BBB Capital, Chair of m.Net Corporation, and Chair of Dexus Property Group - an ASX top 100 company. He is a member of the CSIRO Commercial Committee, was the Chair of the CSIRO Sector Advisory Council for ICT until recently, and advises CSIRO on Wireless patent litigation. He is on the Council of the UTS Business school.

Dr Beare has degrees in Science, Engineering and a PhD from Adelaide University. He has an MBA from the Harvard Business School and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Dr Beare is the Chair of the Commercialisation Committee.
