Researcher
Dr Boulis is doing research in networked embedded systems, primarily in wireless sensor networks and body area networks. More specifically, he is interested in MAC protocol design, global-level programming models, and distributed algorithm methodologies that promote robustness and expose energy/fidelity/delay trade-offs. He is also interested in pervasive applications and wireless sensor network applications where the challenge is utilising existing technology and innovating in system design to build viable systems that address real problems.
Dr Boulis joined NICTA on September 2004. Prior to this he was a PhD student at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he was conducting research on wireless sensor networks under the supervision of Professor Mani Srivastava. Dr Boulis worked as a Graduate Research Assistant and Graduate Teaching Assistant during his graduate studies and was a member of the NSF-founded Center for Embedded Networked Sensing (CENS). His undergraduate studies were completed in the Electronics and Computer Engineering dept. at Technical University of Crete, Greece.
Dr Boulis is part of the Human Performance Improvement project, leading the research for a Body Area Network Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. He is also the lead designer and developer of Castalia, a simulator for Wireless Sensor Networks and Body Area Networks. In the past he was leading the Macro-programming for Wireless Sensor Networks project in NICTA.
