Edwin Bonilla

Researcher
Canberra Research Laboratory

meEdwin Bonilla is a (post-doctoral) researcher at the statistical machine learning (SML) group and an adjunct research fellow to the school of Computer Science at the Australian National University (ANU), contributing to the areas of document analysis and human performance improvement. His research interests include probabilistic graphical models, Bayesian statistics, Gaussian processes and transfer learning. As a machine learner, his main goal is the development of probabilistic models for the construction of systems that can learn from their past experience and for the analysis of complex (and possibly very high dimensional) data.

He received his PhD at The University of Edinburgh (December, 2008), where he proposed and developed probabilistic methods for adaptive program optimization. The outcome of his research has been published at top machine learning and compiler/computer architecture venues such as NIPS (Neural Information Processing Systems), ICML (International Conference on Machine Learning) AISTATS (Artificial Intelligence and Statistics) and MICRO (International Symposium on Microarchitecture).
